What is the DSM H.O.G. Ladies Monthly Cycle? It's not what you think.

On the first of each month for the months of April through September, a location somewhere in Iowa will be announced. Each location celebrates a lady that through strength and courage helped foster the freedom each of us ladies enjoy today. Without their efforts, we may not have the freedom to climb onto our motorcycles, whether as a rider or passenger.

Visit the location on your cycle and snap a photo to be entered into a monthly drawing.

  - Watch Facebook and HOGScan Calendar on the 1st day of the month. An activity will be posted that details the location and some information on the lady we are celebrating.
  - Hop on your cycle and ride to the specified location sometime during the month.
  - Snap a photo of yourself at the stated location.
  - Send photo to Claudia Klinger by the last day. of the month.
  - Attend the next Chapter meeting or watch on Facebook live to see if your name is drawn for a prize.
   - Open to all members, men and women. Participate 1 month, 3 months, or all 6 months.

HINT!   Be sure to read the details of the activity closely as there may be ways to increase your chances in drawing!

Ladies Monthly Cycle Ride - July
Ellen Church was born in Cresco Iowa in 1904. After graduating from Cresco High School, she studied nursing and became a registered nurse. Ellen also became a licensed pilot. Her desire was to pilot a commercial aircraft, but those jobs were not open to females. Fueled by that desire, she convinced Boeing Air Transport (now United Airlines) that hiring nurses as Stewardesses on flights would calm passengers’ fear of flying. In 1930, the airline agreed to hire her for a 3-month trial period. She recruited 7 other ladies, dubbed the “sky girls” and they took their first flight on May 15, 1930. To be considered for the sky girl job, ladies had to meet the following criteria: Single, under the age of 25, weigh less than 115 pounds, and stand under 5 feet 4 inches. These ladies where then expected to not only attend to passengers on the flight, but also help haul luggage, fuel and assist pilots push aircraft into the hangars.
